About The Westside - 700 king street west, toronto, on
The Westside Lofts represents one of the earlier conversion loft buildings in the west end of Toronto. Formerly an office building, it was converted to residential use in 2000. The 14-storey building sits imposingly on the northwest corner of King and Bathurst, softened only by the clock tower that feels ‘carved’ into the corner of the structure. 216 units are present in layouts spanning 674 to 2717 square feet.
The former office roots provide generous 11.5-foot ceilings, oversized windows, and unusually wide hallways. The building has a stylish lobby and a healthy list of amenities at the resident’s disposal. Exposed ductwork and plumbing enhance the loft feel, and the landmark clock tower adds charm to this building, though will make ‘losing track of time’ a challenging excuse for tardiness with your friends.
Units here aren’t frequently offered, though are fairly priced for the neighbourhood. This may have something to do with the higher than average condo fees, though extensive amenities explain this to some extent. Toronto’s oldest pub is across the street to the south, and one of many contemporary fine dining options across to the East. This is just a microscopic look at the wealth of retail and entertainment offerings within an easy walk of the Westside. Transit in any direction is just steps away, and there is little of your daily needs that can’t be met here in the absence of a vehicle, a testament to the convenience of the King West neighbourhood.
What We : You will get more space for your money here than in most new construction in the area, and there are plenty of spacious two-bedroom units, all with super-tall ceilings. The rooftop lounge area was recently redone and sports a seriously Toronto skyline view. The penthouse suites looking out from behind the huge clock on top of the building are definitely some of the most unique in the city.
What We Don’t: Because of its former use as an office building, there are no balconies, and the style feels quite different compared to buildings converted from century-old warehouses.
