About Sorauren Lofts - 347 sorauren avenue, toronto, ontario
The Sorauren Lofts was initially a ball-bearing factory in its previous life, but the original two-story mill-style warehouse had a couple of additions and now finds itself home to 48 lofts ranging in size from 532 up to 1680 square feet. Most impressive about this particular building is the care and attention paid to continue the timber construction into the newer parts of the design. First-floor suites bask in 15-foot ceiling heights, while the second storey boasts 12-foot ceilings structured in steel frame.
These are character-rich authentic loft spaces with the unique layouts one expects in a warehouse conversion. That said, some of the units the building (the smaller, more attainable ones) receive natural light solely from a large skylight, a feature that may not be for everyone!
Like its neighbouring loft brethren, the most attractive feature of this building is the location. This is a relatively quiet family neighbourhood where people constantly remark on the friendliness of their neighbours. Nearby Sorauren Park is a haven for dog walkers, sports fields and home to one of the most established farmers’ markets in the city. The European-flavoured festivals and retail offerings on Roncesvalles are a serious draw. That said, the open plans and partial walls in many of these units may not be overly conducive to a growing family. Young’uns in your near future? You might want to consider other options in the neighbourhood.
What We : The industrial hallways at Sorauren Lofts say it all – this is a REAL warehouse loft, complete with brushed metal doors, heavy pipes and ductwork, and exposed wood-slat ceilings. Ground floor units on the south side of the building have terraces that open directly onto Sorauren Park. Plus it’s pretty incognito – many neighbourhood residents don’t really know it’s a condo loft.
What We Don’t: Some of the creative mezzanine additions can weave around dangerously low metal beams – watch your head! As mentioned, a few interior units actually have only a skylight for natural light…not for everyone.
