The Soho Lofts (aka The Starwood Centre) is an oddity in the Toronto loft market in that it was converted from a former office tower. This live/work building rises 10 storeys at Richmond and Brant in the Downtown West neighbourhod, and houses 100 hard lofts. The mix of commercial and residential spaces range in size from 500 to over 2000 square feet.
These spaces are generally single level loft spaces that offer concrete floors, pillars, and ceilings, and with ceiling heights of up to 15 feet, some owners have added useful mezzanines that add dramatically to the livable space. The unique nature of the building leaves it open to some interesting uses as well – current neighbours include a modeling agency, men’s grooming studio and even a consulate. Plans here are open and draped in natural light from the massive windows inside. Lack of deeded parking is one downfall, though is it available for rent monthly.
If the unique nature of the Soho Condos isn’t enough, consider location. Just steps from Queen and Spadina, transit, entertainment, culture, and retail galore are all outside the front door. For those that value life and play with work just a stone’s throw away, the Starwood Centre is a unique option.
What We :It’s a really unique option in a great location. Large windows, open spaces…if you have some vision and are looking for something really different from the cookie-cutter condos downtown, this could be the solution.
What We Don’t: It used to be an office building…and feels like it. Especially the hallways might make you feel more like you’re visiting your accountant than coming home.
