The Liberty Lofts was originally home to the Gillette razor factory; the warehouse has since been transformed to a 4-storey low-rise hard loft conversion housing just 46 authentic lofts. This amalgamation of two buildings appears seamless from the outside, but once you walk inside a cool atrium connects the two structures: one post and beam originally in 1900, the other a raw 1920’s building of concrete with mushroomed pillars.
These lofts range in size from 585 square foot one-bedroom single level units, all the way to two-level two-bedroom penthouse suites of 1360 square feet. Penthouse suites feature outdoor terraces, and all have ceiling heights between 11 and 13 feet. The elevator that overlooks the atrium is particularly impressive when viewed from inside and out.
The financial district is just a 10-minute walk, and of course, all the offerings of St. Lawrence Market and the Distillery District are even closer. Authentic loft lovers will appreciate the preserved charm of the spaces in a location that offers easy access to work and plays just east of the centre of the city.
What We : The Liberty Lofts is another “real deal” conversion loft that most people in the city don’t even know is there – even if they drive by it every day! It’s incognito, well-designed, and has all the hard loft brick and beam cred you could want. One of Brendan’s faves for its under-the-radar feel.
What We Don’t: Like any conversion loft, spaces and layouts range from big and raw to cramped and awkward.
