The Electra Lofts is a soft loft building on the north border of the Liberty Village neighbourhood (just on the north side of the tracks), with 257 units spread out over 6 floors, with mostly two-level suites that range in size from 500 to nearly 1300 square feet
This is a modern-style construction from notable Urbancorp, with concrete walls and ceilings that rise as high as 17 feet over two floors in the multi-level layout. Penthouses have rooftop terraces, while the lower floors have balconies and typically second-floor bedrooms that overlook living rooms. The building offers residents a newly renovated fitness centre, party room and as of 2014 a new exterior paint job ending a decade as “the yellow building.”
Electra has as much in common with King West down the street as it does with Liberty Village across the tracks, but your closest amenities are in the latter: great restaurants here alongside amazing boutiques and gourmet food offerings. Metro provides the daily needs (open 24 hours, although the new grocery store in the bottom of DNA3 can’t be more convenient), and you’ve even got liquor, beer and health food options all in the same couple of city blocks. Transit is right at your door, though getting on it in rush hour can be a challenge.
What We LOVE: The open living room ceilings give 2-level suites a great airy feeling, as long as you don’t need your bedroom to be super private. There is also a footbridge just to the south of Electra Lofts that connects King West to Liberty Village.
What We Don’t: Electra has been around long enough that original kitchens can be dated and carpets scruffy, so it depends on individual owners’ penchant for updating. Open bedrooms aren’t very private – the price to pay for 2 floors of windows.
