Did you know water damage and leaks account for approximately 17% of insurance claims? The obvious solution is to stop burst pipes before they happen.
If you’re planning a winter getaway, don’t spend your vacation worrying about your home.
Before you go:
- Turn off the water supply to your toilets and washing machine, and drain exterior water pipes and any pipes that run through unheated areas, like garages and crawlspaces.
- Turn your thermostats down, but not off. Between 17 and 19 degrees Celsius is a good “vacation” temperature.
- Set your hot water heater to “vacation mode”.
If you’re vacationing for an extended period of time, be sure to have a friend or family member check on your home. (your insurance company likely requires it!)
Now go enjoy that margarita…
