Welcome To Woodbine-Lumsden

Welcome to Toronto’s Woodbine-Lumsden neighbourhood!

What you’ll find in Woodbine-Lumsden is a laid back, down-to-earth nook of Toronto with thriving new businesses and lots of things to keep the kids busy.

It’s quiet, residential, and chock full of amenities. Grocery stores like Sobeys are right on the Danforth, and plenty of corner stores dot the neighbourhood, like Old’s Cool General Store. It’s a nifty place where you can pick up something for dinner, sit down with a coffee or buy hand-crafted goods celebrating East York. If you need specialty food, Moberly Natural Foods and Fresh from the Farm are local favourites. And you’ll also find a small pharmacy on the Danforth and a Shopper’s Drug Mart at Woodbine and Cosburn.

The main strip boasts many family-friendly businesses, like Silly Goose Kids, Flourishing Sprouts and Oaks & Acorns. Hobbyists, collectors and DIYers will find a Home Hardware on the Danforth, with Johns Hobbies and Kops  Records within walking distance.

Outdoorsy types can enjoy local wildlife while hiking or biking in Taylor Creek Park. The kids (and the dog) can let off some steam in Stan Wadlow Park, where you’ll find an off-leash area, splash pad, outdoor pool, skate park and SIX baseball diamonds. During the winter, get your workout in at a number of different community centres or take up curling at the East York Curling Club, where the winners always buy the drinks!

So if you’re looking for a place where you can live a laid-back life surrounded by a community who really cares, Woodbine-Lumsden may be the spot for you.

Your Typical Neighbour

Young families come to roost in Woodbine-Lumsden, which is no surprise given the local shopping, sprawling green spaces and oodles of activities for kids. Single home owners are also finding their way east to snap up units in mid-rise developments just minutes from the subway (and a quick bus ride to the beach!)

What We Love

The sense of community! This area is known for the neighbourhood and business associations who revitalized storefronts with mom-and-pop shops and attracted new restaurants. You’ll find downtowners and locals brunching at Hollandaise, watching the Canada Day fireworks from Stan Wadlow Park (or the middle of the road), cone from Carter’s Ice Cream on their way to the farmer’s market at East Lynn Park.

What We Don’t Love

Even though it’s bloomed in recent years, there are still signs Woodbine-Lumsden is a neighbourhood in transition.

Affordable properties that were plentiful are becoming harder to find. New businesses flourish, but some old standbys have left. Relish Bar & Grill recently moved to the tonier Greek Village, limiting your immediate pub options to a chain or something a little seedier.

Getting downtown during rush hour will take 45 minutes standing up because the seats get filled up in Scarborough.

The Real Estate Scoop

Homes range from a singleton’s condo in a mid-rise building to a modern build on an established street. Modest semis and a healthy stock of detached homes are still up for grabs. And topping up a small bungalow can double the square footage you need with a couple of kiddos.

Transit

Getting around is easy with many bus routes leading to Main Station or the refurbished Woodbine Station (now with elevator access). The Danforth Go Station is conveniently located just south of Main and Danforth, and accessing the Don Valley Parkway is pretty easy from the north end.
