Welcome To Blake-Jones
Welcome to Toronto’s Blake-Jones neighbourhood!
Bounded by Greenwood Avenue to the east, the railway to the south, Pape Avenue to the west and Danforth Avenue to the north, the community of Blake-Jones is just that. This is one neighbourhood where you feel like you’re a part of something. Located within Blake-Jones is a charming community called The Pocket, which got its name as it’s only accessible by Jones Avenue.
Phin Avenue Parkette is one of this community’s most charming parks. Here’s you’ll find one of the most active community groups in the city. The Pocket Community Association holds events in Phin Park including fireworks festivities in May and visits from Santa in December. They are involved in community improvement projects, park clean up, Art and Theatre in the Park, all free and creative fun.
This neighbourhood is also home to Kempson Howard Park, This small park near Jones and Danforth Avenue features a ball diamond, wading pool and a children’s playground. Formerly known as “Eastview Park”, this park was renamed in 2007 to honour the memory of Kempton Howard, a local resident and youth worker who was tragically killed. This park is set to get a big facelift, with upgrades set to be completed by fall 2020.
The section of the Danforth that forms Blake-Jones’ northern border is east of the heart of Greektown. Here you’ll find some great watering holes like Bar Hop Session, known for having a tap list that will appeal to die-hard craft beer lovers. You can also pull up a barstool at “The Only”, a long-time favourite local spot that was highlighted in a song by Toronto band “The Lowest of the Low” many moons ago. This stretch also offers great BBQ at Greenwood Smoke, the perfect hangover cure at Squareboy Burgers.
Family-friendly Left Field Brewery is just outside the borders, south of the tracks near Greenwood and is worth the trip. And the Pape Library also has great programming for everyone in the family, located just south of Danforth.

Your Typical Neighbour
This neighbourhood is an eclectic mix of long-standing residents and newbies, with lots of economic and cultural diversity. Known as “the more affordable” pocket east of the Don and west of the Beach, you’ll find young families moving into starter homes alongside more established professionals who are snapping up fully renovated houses for slightly less than they’d pay in the ‘hood on either side of this area.
What We Love
You can’t mention this area without calling attention to The Pocket. This tight-knit enclave has one of the most active community groups in the city. Blake-Jones’ ‘hood is very proud of their incredible diversity. There is access to a number of schools, and the transit access, along with proximity to downtown, offers a wonderful opportunity to achieve elusive work/life balance.
What We Don’t Love
There are areas of this neighbourhood that feel a bit gridlocked. The Pocket, in particular, because of the lack of through streets, sees cars lined up at stop signs at busy times.
The Real Estate Scoop
The real estate in the area is really characterized by semi-detached homes on tree-lined streets. Originally built to house workers in the factories, these homes are now living their best life. Well-maintained and more-often than not, impeccably renovated, the pride of ownership in this area is evident. Along Blake, you’ll find more affordable options. There are also apartment buildings and townhouse complexes for those on a fixed income or require supportive housing.
Transit
With a transit score of 89 and the subway within walking distance, it is easy to get around in this hood. Blake-Jones also has a walkscore of 89 so if public transit isn’t your thing, most amenities can be reached by foot as well!
