The Pure Spirit Lofts is a 32-storey high-rise tower located in the Distillery District. The building is home to 378 suites ranging in size from 439 to 2661 square feet, with 10 foot ceiling heights on the first on the first 6 floors and 9 foot heights from there upward. The ‘podium’ of the building extends beyond the walls of the tower and provides the real estate for an outdoor common space that features a swimming pool and hot tub surrounded by landscaped garden. Other amenities present include fitness, billiard, party and media rooms, his and her sauna, and furnished guest suites.
Pure Spirit’s ‘loftification’ comes in the form of exposed concrete ceilings and ductwork, as well as design-conscious sliding bedroom doors that maximize space. Stylish European-inspired kitchens, engineered hardwood, and soaker tubs were all standard offerings at the time of construction. Christopher Hume of the Toronto Star calls this building ‘Sleek, elegant and thoroughly urban…’ but perhaps its finest feature is Geography.
The Distillery District is an underrated cultural gem in the heart of Toronto. What We : The ‘pointy’ units in the west corner of the building, while not being very practical space, are pretty cool design-wise, and make for bright spaces with all that window. The podium-top pool and lounge are gorgeous on a sunny summer day. Oh and there are groceries in the bottom of Pure Spirit, so you’ll never need to leave if it’s cold out!
What We Don’t: Pure Spirit was plagued by mechanical problems early on, including a leaky rooftop pool, all of which of course cost owners $. Be sure to have your lawyer check the status certificate carefully to make sure things are under control these days.
